There will be some dense freezing fog patches across central areas, and snow will push into South Wales, Gloucestershire and Hampshire during Monday morning, and the Midlands, East Anglia and southeast England by the evening, with some disruption likely.
The fog will be slow to clear, and in some places will remain all day, further suppressing the temperatures.
Even where skies do clear, daytime temperatures are likely to remain sub-zero.
Cloud in the South West will bring sleet and snow, which could well give some further significant accumulations.
As this weather system spreads north and east, milder temperatures will turn some of the snow back to rain close to southern coasts.
Elsewhere, snow showers will continue over northern parts of the country.
It will be another very cold night with icy stretches on the roads and the ready formation of freezing fog.
Occasional wintry showers are likely for Scotland, and also for central, southern Scotland.
