Memo to Security Detail: You can celebrate Diwali next year.
The biggest Indian festival will now be a very full workday for the security forces responsible for making sure that U.S. President Barack Obama arrives safely in India.
We hear the dates of the president’s much-anticipated trip to these shores have been advanced slightly so he leaves Washington Nov. 4, arrives Nov. 5 and departs Nov. 8 for the rest of his Asia tour. A spokeswoman for the U.S. embassy in New Delhi said the dates of the president’s trip have yet to be announced. But the president is scheduled to address a business and entrepreneurship summit in Mumbai Nov. 6 and is expected to fly in to the country Nov. 5 in the evening.
Nov. 5 is Diwali.
Amritsar is another likely stop before he reaches New Delhi to address the nation’s political class. In Mumbai, it appears Mr. Obama may well be speaking in front of the Gateway, as India Real Time proposed earlier.
